About us

Celebrating the cherry, every February

NationalCherryMonth.com is a home for everything National Cherry Month: where it came from, why it lands in February, and the recipes and traditions that make it worth celebrating.

The site was founded by Andy LaPointe, co-founder of Traverse Bay Farms, a family-owned Northern Michigan tart cherry company founded in 2001.

What is National Cherry Month?

It’s every February

National Cherry Month runs from February 1 through the end of the month. Michigan Governor William G. Milliken was the first to proclaim it.

It’s rooted in Michigan

Michigan grows most of the nation’s tart cherries, and the Traverse City area is known as the Cherry Capital of the World.

It’s for everyone

Bake a pie for National Cherry Pie Day on February 20, cook with dried or frozen cherries, or share the history with your family and classroom.

Who we are

From Northern Michigan cherry country

Traverse Bay Farms is a family-owned Montmorency tart cherry company founded in September 2001 in Northern Michigan. Its retail stores are in Bellaire and Elk Rapids, Michigan, and it ships cherry products nationwide.

Andy LaPointe leads its content and culinary work, and created NationalCherryMonth.com to give the month a home online.
